Bring your hats back to life

I purchased this steamer because my wool baseball hats had shrunked from exposure to sweat. I also have some western hats that needed to be reshaped and resized from years of abuse. The steamer is very well made and comes fully assembled. You fill up the plastic bottle with distilled water and place it in the unit. There is a check valve in the bottle to prevent spills. After turning on the power steam becomes available in about 2-3 minutes. I had no problem using the unit to resize and reshape my hats and it makes plenty of steam. As a note of caution, this is not a toy and should not be used by children without adult supervision. The steam can easily cause burns if your hands get too close to the nozzle. Also, if you are planning on resizing you hats you will also need to buy a hat stretcher. I purchased the one made by Killer Hats and it works well.

Didn't unwrinkle the things I tried.

I tried the steamer thinking it would be wonderful to not drag out the ironing board. I tried a shirt for my husband, a sweater that the sleeves were wrinkled and a silky blouse. It didn't work on any of them. Same wrinkles after as before the use of the steamer.

Who says you can't press a decorated shirt?

I don't usually rave about garment care products, but this gadget is terrific! I have tons of shirts that say "Do not iron if decorated!" Well fear not! The Black & Decker Steam ' n Go does a remarkable job pressing even decorated items. It also will not scorch your ironing board, or your suit, if you leave it face down on the garment, as an iron will. The only drawback I've found is the small water capacity. However, I don't see this to be a glaring oversight, and would recommend this product to any person that is fed up with scorched garments, burns from accidental contact with the business end of an iron; or people who want to travel light. This item comes with a lint brush for removing hair and so forth, as well as a foreign voltage adapter plug, as mentioned in the description. Also includes a carrying bag which can easily fit into a small section of your suitcase, or a pants pocket; if you are into cargo pants. This iterm is in-expensive, very efficient; and an overall great buy.

Didn't work for me...

Simply put, it doesn't work. Well, perhaps it can work on some types of fabrics/garments in very specific (or limited) situations, but it didn't work on mine.You can't manage to get a continuous flow of steam, even if you keep on pumping the button frequently (what it doesn't support, as a matter of fact, because there's a limit of bursts of steam it can shoot out in a row before "reloading").I returned it to seller (Brand Variety, that refunded me without problems, no question asked).Not recommended.

It's only a Toy steamer - just like the pump spray on your steam iron

This is one of the most poorly designed items I've ever purchased. I'm not talking about poor quality manufacturing, I mean it's a really dumb idea. Shame on you Black and Decker. I have an old hand-held Sunbeam steamer that supplies continuous steam, which is what you need to remove wrinkles quickly and easily. To get steam from the Black & Decker GS110 Steam 'n Go, you have to pump a button with your thumb that shoots out a burst of steam, very much like the pump button for extra steam on most steam irons. Unbelievable. All they've done essentially is take an iron and remove the heavy metal bottom and seal the water tank, so you can hold it in any position without spilling water. Even if you're very careful to not pump the button too quickly or too frequently, it still spits water on the garment pretty regularly. A steam iron can put out a continuous supply of steam while you have it on the garment, that's a requirement. This so-called steamer can't do that. You can't pump it often enough to get a steady supply of enough steam for even a shirt or it will spit water all over it. I'm guessing that anyone that thinks this is a good steamer, or even an adequate steamer, has never used a decent one. Do yourself a big favor and stay far away from this poorly designed, ridiculous toy steamer. What were the folks at Black and Decker thinking?

T-fal Ultraglide steam iron FV4476 replaces T-fal FV4379 iron. This thoughtfully designed and reliable 1700W steam iron smoothes out wrinkles quickly and easily. The high-quality ceramic soleplate provides unrivalled glideability and superior scratch resistance allowing for smoother ironing and better steam coverage. The ceramic soleplate helps the Ultraglide steam iron slide effortlessly over any type of fabric, from shirts to table linen, while its dial temperature control with three fabric settings accommodates a variety of material-from delicate linen to cotton and wool. Patented and exclusive Easycord system keeps the cord out of the way when steam ironing and prevents from re-wrinkling already-ironed fabrics. The iron produces continuous steam, delivers a powerful burst of steam (80g/min) providing additional steam for stubborn wrinkles. Continuous steam and soleplate temperature are both adjustable to the fabric type and your ironing needs. Use Ultraglide steam iron on a flat surface for traditional steam ironing or hold it upright for vertically steaming out wrinkles from hanging drapes and delicate garments. Extra-large heel helps to prevent Ultraglide steam iron tipping over and is perfect to wrap up the cord when the Ultraglide steam iron is stored. The double anti-scale system comes with an calc-away valve which automatically collects scale preventing calcium build-up from hard water and increases the lifetime of the Ultraglide steam iron. A Video Review of the Ultraglide

Part of the reason is that I have used the same iron for 15+ years (which you can see in the video portion of the review). However, once we began using the T-fal PUltraglide we realized that our old Subeam iron is certainly dated technology.Observations- The non-stick coating/pattern on the bottom really does seem to work. It does reduce the friction between the iron and the fabric - this helps to reduce some of the fatigue induced when you have multiple items to iron.- The iron can be used as an upright steamer (see the video) certainly a feature our old Sunbeam never had.- Nice wide and sturdy stand helps to reduce the likelihood of tips.- The fabric selector is pretty straight-forward and easy to use- Very easy to fill with water- Lightweight and easy to useFinal Verdict - An easy to use non-stick iron. We really like the T-fal iron and it is certainly is a significant upgrade over our Sunbeam iron.5 Stars

The best iron I've ever used or owned.

I was extremely excited about receiving this iron because mine was out of date and cheaply made, to say the least. The first thing I noticed when I opened the box and got it out to use it, is that it has a sealed door where you pour the water into the iron. This was a huge plus because I don't like the water running back down the iron onto my clothes if there's any drops left on it or if I accidentally overfilled. It's extremely easy to fill with water and use. The weight is perfect. It's not extremely light, but it has enough weight to it, so that you don't have to apply much pressure when ironing. I sew, so I use this iron for everything from ironing interfacing, seams, and patterns to ironing regular every day things such as work pants and button up shirts. The soleplate is pointed for getting in every crease and crevice, no matter how small. It has a really smooth surface as well, so it glides over anything I iron with ease. It's settings are extremely easy to use as they aren't number settings, they are fabric type, so there's no guessing which number it needs to be on for cotton, silk, wool, etc. The spray steam produces an even mist and works great for getting out stubborn wrinkles and for creasing pants and it doesn't leave huge water spots all over my clothes like my last iron. You can choose the amount of steam the iron puts out on a separate dial, so you don't have to have steam with whatever fabric setting you choose. My old iron had that all built into one dial, so for cotton, I automatically had steam, even if I didn't want it. I really like the way the cord is made. It stays out of my way while I'm ironing and winds easily around the base when not in use. I love the pretty color on this too. My best friend has a Rowenta iron that was suppose to be top of the line, and after only having it a few months, the base broke on it and it won't sit upright without falling over. On top of that, it was huge and bulky. So, I highly recommend this iron to anyone wanting a nice iron with all the bells and whistles without the huge price tag.

T-fal FV4476003 Ultraglide Easycord Iron, GreenI always thought that I just could not iron until I used this one. I have always dreaded and hated ironing because no matter how hard I tried, I was just lousy at it. My clothes never had that great crisp-ironed look that I wanted. It was time for a new one and since I have come to trust the reviews on Amazon, I researched Amazon's site for irons and decided to purchase the T-fal Ultraglide Easycord Iron. First off, it arrived earlier than expected and in great packaging. I am just so thrilled with this iron. I had a Rowenta years ago but it was heavy and I did not get the results that I now get with my new T-fal--- and ---I paid a third of the price for this one. Often I will iron in the morning but am anxious because it takes me forever to do even a half-way-decent job. Now I actually get excited because I know my clothes will look great and the time it will take to iron is cut by at least 75%. No kidding! I complete my ironing so very fast and beautifully now that it is almost too good to be true.The only improvement that I wish T-fal would make for this iron going forward is to make the water level easier to see.As always, I am so grateful to Amazon for giving us the opportunity to read reviews and make informed decisions before making a purchase.UPDATE MAY 27 2012: Sadly, I do not know what is wrong with the iron but something is definitely wrong. I think I received that iron another customer review referred to; WATER POURS OUT OF THE BOTTOM PORTION OF THE IRON. I so loved this iron and only used it a couple of times before this started. I hear a sound inside the iron that sounds like a "spring breaking". My cutoff to return the iron or exchange it for a new one ended yesterday. I don't believe it. Why is it that some of these irons are perfect yet others are defective. I will purchase another because this has to be defective. Will hang in there to give another chance for this product.GREAT NEWS FROM AMAZON: They have already sent out a replacement and I should receive it in just a few days. Steam Fast Quicksteam works for me

I've read great reviews about this steamer and poor reviews. The poor reviews claim that the unit did not work. The great reveiws report claims of great steam fast, just like the Good HouseKeeping seal. I figured that if I bought the unit from Amazon, I could always return it if I was unsatisfied. I like to steam my clothes. I have a Jiffy portable unit for travel and home. I wanted to get a full size unit for home use. This unit is great. It heats up fast (less than a minute). Be sure to hold the trigger and wait. It is not a passive steamer. A pump activates to provide a nice flow of steam. This unit has a water filter. It slides into the drain plug on the bottom of the unit. In the package you will receive information about accessories. I called the support company, Top Innovations and ordered a few extra supplies. I ordered two extra water filters (for $2.99 each) and also a A-465-K1 Accessory Kit. This kit has an entirely separate hose and nossle with various attachments. This will allow me to steam clean counters, stove, tile. I want it to clean the interior floors of my vehicles after the winter. I hope this information helps. If you are considering a home unit with fast steam, a water filter and available accessories, then this may be the model for you. Michael from Johnstown, Pennsylvania

Disappointed in the customer service!

I received my unit and it worked for about 5 weeks. It just stopped working one night. The unit heated up but no steam was produced. I called Top Innovations (since my 30 days had expired to return it to Amazon. com) and they would send out a replacement hose. The rep. was sure it was a bad "chip" in the hose. I tried the new hose, same problem. I had to ship the whole unit back to them.($30.00 of my money to ship) I received it back 3-4 weeks later (meanwhile, no contact from the company letting me know what was happening) it appeared on my front porch with NO indication of what was done to it. I had to place another call to Customer Service because when I tried it again, it STILL didn't work. I repeatedly asked for a "new" unit since I obviously had a lemon or for my money back but I received neither. I had to send it back AGAIN (at their expense this time) so the technician could see what was wrong again. One month later (still no update at all) I contacted them to see what was going on. They said they would be sending me a "replacement" unit the next day. What I received was a "reconditioned" unit. So..... I paid for a new unit, got 5 weeks of work from it and now am STUCK with a reconditioned unit that, who know how long it will last. I expected more from a product that was highly recommended to me.

Works Well but Breaks Often

My husband bought me this steamer several years ago. It works well for hanging items like dresses or shirts. It is not suited to items that have creases, like pants. I wear mostly dresses and steaming them is much faster and easier than ironing. The steamer is also easier on fabric than an iron as it won't scorch or melt your clothing. And unlike an iron, the steamer doesn't leave marks. You do need to follow the directions. I learned the hard way that if you depress the trigger too long, you'll get water all over your clothes. The steamer heats fairly quickly and the wand is easy to maneuver. However, you need to exercise soe caution when handling the wand. I burned myself on the steam a few times. I was happy with the machine for about 3 years and then it suddenly quit making steam. It would heat but nothing came out of the wand. I e-mailed Top Innovations and the customer service rep told me I could send it back to have it repaired. The cost was about $48, plus about $20 for shipping. I opted to have the machine repaired since it was cheaper than buying a new one (of the same model, anyway). It took about six weeks to get it back. The repaired machine (or a new one--I couldn't tell what they had sent me) appeared to have a different heating mechanism than it had previously. It made a putt-putt noise when I depressed the trigger while the previous mechanism was silent. It has been a year since the repair and now the steamer has broken again. This time the problem is the trigger. I noticed about a month ago that the trigger was becoming loose and now it's about to fall off. I can still press on the trigger but no steam comes out of the wand. I am very disappointed as I think this machine should last longer than 4 years. Two breakdowns in four years seems excessive to me. I haven't decided whether to send it back again for repairs or buy a new one. I will definitely do one or the other as I much prefer a steamer to an iron. For now, however, it's back to the iron.

It is a new process - but works great

I learned how to iron in the Army, putting creases on my uniforms each Sunday night before I go to work. And I was pretty good at it. But I always thought there had to be a better way. This is a great product and I imagine as an appliance, one is probably comparable to the other, the difference being price and features.The trick, and perhaps the reason for some negative reviews is that folks seem to expect it to be similar to hand ironing. It is not. You need to develop a new process, tackle your clothes differently. I suggest three things:1. Think in big chunks. Remember the hand iron is small and most of us who can iron think in small areas. This appliance will tackle much bigger areas. And it will iron both sides at once - don't stress yourself about flipping things over - spend time instead on smoothing out the wrinkles and then simply drop the handle, hit a bolt or two of steam. Be patient, the skills will come.2. Let it warm up - I plug it in, turn it on and putter a bit, gathering laundry and prepping my clothes. I set it up on my old ironing board and then simply lower it down so I can sit at the couch and iron while watching the evening news.3. Practice, practice, practice. If you have a garment that absolutely must be ironed perfectly for a meeting in an hour - and you have never used this press before - then you will be disappointed. I suggest practice placing items on it while it is unplugged and cold - you will quickly get the hang of it. When first trying it out, iron a few old shirts, pants or dresses to get the hang of it. Excellent Time Saver - Easy To Operate

Despite some of the negative reviews I had read about steam pressing, I forged forward and purchased this item. One common concern among other reviewers was the inability to press dress shirts, without creating crease in the wrong places. I did not encounter this problem. I would suggest you practice placing articles of clothing on the iron prior to starting up. I did this and it worked like a charm. It also cut down my ironing time by 50% or more. The optional steam capability works great. Note, when you use this option it will reduce the temperature of the iron. On the whole it operated wonderfully and created very nice creases(in the right places), on slacks as well as shirts. I will be ordering the optional table, this way I will be able to sit while I press.

Good for Umpa-Lumpas -- Too Small for Real People

Alright, I'm in the military and spend too many hours a day ironing my uniform. In what seemed like a grand attempt to cut this back, I thought that the SteamFast SP-660 would help. But, there were a couple of issues with the machine.First, a side note. For some reason Amazon will not ship this item to an APO address (military stationed overseas). So, I had to ship it to a third-person who graciously forwarded it to me. Nothing to do with the product, but a sore subject with me.The largest problem is that the board is far too small to actually iron anything quickly. I could only iron portions of the shirt and pants at a time. However, once you iron one portion, it gets re-wrinkled on the machine's hinge when you iron more. So, the depth and length of the board were unrealistic.It heated up quickly, cooled down quickly, had great steam, but was absolutely ineffective at saving time.In short, if you're using this to iron your children's clothing or an umpa-lumpa costume, it should be fine. If you're ironing "real-people clothing," I would stick with a traditional iron and ironing board, or reinvest in your local drycleaner.

steam iron for travel

I purchased this steam and dry iron to use in my hobby room for sewing projects. It does spit some steam out occassionally but is good for my purposes. It is light weight and does ot take up a lot of room.

I use this for Quilting and Clothing

This replaced a decent (read expensive) Rowenta with a cord. My dog pulled the Rowenta off the ironing board by catching his foot or tail in the cord. The Rowenta lived and so did the dog, but out of concern for the safety of dog and home I immediately started shopping for a new iron--cordless being the first priority.I was concerned that the iron would not be as hot as I need it to be for linen and cotton and read all the reviews and decided to try it anyway because it is easily returned to Amazon. I chose the steel sole plate and did not want a non-stick sole plate because of toxins and scratching.Happily - I am able to announce that I am using it almost daily for quilting and weekly for the laundry/ironing tasks. It stays hot - good and hot. I have a Polder ironing board with a metal tray at the end for an iron to sit on. I place the base there and the board is free so I can iron with no trouble. I use the iron, put it back on the base, adjust whatever I am ironing and continue ironing in this manner. This keeps the iron hot all the time. It takes 10 minutes for the auto shut off and so as long as I am working steadily there is no problem. The Rowenta had an auto-off like most higher price irons and it was off every time I turned around. I hated that.As a quilter, I usually work in an assembly line fashion, I piece everything I can, press and then piece again and press so I do not have a problem with the iron cooling down in the middle of my work.I took the Panasonic Cordless to my quilting and sewing group meetings and everyone came running over to see it--it is really lovely. Some people oohed and aahhhed, and put it on their Christmas list, but some were quickly disinterested. We all have our own needs--and this iron suits me very well. Because of the cordless design, I don't mind ironing at all anymore.Reasons to like it:The iron is beautiful, with a clean design, 4 simple soft-touch buttons.The clear case is one of the best features as it can be carried to quilting classes or sewing groups.It is easy to set temperatures, there are 3 temps and you can press a button and choose the appropriate temp, no spinning dial or guessing like most irons.There are lights to show if its cool or hot.Iron gets very hot.Steam feature works fine, although I often use a dry iron for quilting.The removable water tank is fantastic. No more carrying water in a pitcher to my iron to refill it. Now I can gently release the tank and take it right to the water source.Retractable cord on the base.I should also mention that I don't use the spray feature because of habit I keep a large sprayer filled with fresh rosemary scented water.My only gripe, a small one, is that I wish it had a longer cord on the base, but then it probably would not be retractable.

Pricey, but worth it

After several laundries ruined my custom made dress shirts, I decided to wash/iron my own. I hadn't ironed anything is fifteen years, and dreaded the prospect. However, this Panasonic cordless works so well it is actually tolerable! The design, functionality, packaging and features are excellent. Highly recommended.

Once you go cordless you will never go back!

I just had a baby! I was worried about him pulling on the cord and the iron landing on him! I look at all the cordless iron and pick this one because of all the thing it does. The cord is in the base not the iron itself. The cord automatic retractable into the base. This is great because you do not need to worry about it being in the way!The iron has three setting Low, Med, High. On the base it tell you which setting to use for what fabric.I love the easy to fill water tank! You just push a button, pull out the tank, fill the tank, and slide it back in, there you have it! No more spills! Awesome!!! It has a auto-shut off in 10 min. The iron light will say off when to turn off, with the other irons you can tell if it off until you go to use it. Water go everywhere!!! I also love that this iron does not leak everywhere! Hallelujah!!!!!!!!!!!I love the heat-resistant carrying case! You can put it way still hot, just put the top on and put it way!!! You do not need to worry about burning anything!!!! That is great! You can leave it on the counter with the top on too! I also like that the case transparent the other iron are solid. I like that you can see the iron it looks better to me. This iron is great for travel too! We take it on a trip it works great!!!!It have a 2-for-1 with Jet-of-Steam and Self-Cleaning too!On the website it say this: (Stainless Steel Soleplate)"With a series of round indentations that trap pockets of air between the soleplate and the fabric, the iron glides smoothly and effortlessly."Has you can see I love this Iron!!!!!I would say that you need to go by what the base says about what setting to use because, if it is to hot for the fabric it will stick!
