Does what I need it to..

First of all, I ordered this bad boy on Monday and received it on Thursday. With the super saver free shipping. It was amazingly fast.I had a conair before I got this one. It finally gave in after 3 years. And I needed a new one.This one is cheap and does what I need it too.It starts steaming very quickly and gets the basic wrinkles out of my clothes for work.It is not an iron and does not make anything look amazing crisp. But I never thought it would.I just want to be able to take a shirt off of my floor that might not look too good and steam it out so it is wearable. That is exactly what this steamer does.I love it and I can not live without one.

Great steamer

Worried it wouldn't do heavier cotton shirts and pants, but it seems to have no problem with these. You can see the before and after on the shirt in the video, and the wrinkles don't come back like when you iron.

I purchased this, because I hate ironing, its so much trouble, and I can never seem to get all the wrinkles out. This works great. It gets very hot though (the steam)so you have to be careful where you place your hands. It also starts to leak water so you have to hold it straight and let the water run back down the tube to the receptacle. Overall Ive been happy with this.

Works great. Beats ironing hands-down.

I just bought this a few hours ago. I hate ironing. I use standard business button-down shirts daily.I have a portable chin up bar set up in a doorway that's perfect for hanging clothes on hangers, and it works great in conjunction with this steamer.I think that if more people actually read the operating instructions, there would be more favorable reviews.You need to keep the steam-head pointed upwards only, at all times, so that condensation can drop back down into the steamer. If you point the head in any other direction, you'll definitely get a little water. The instructions clearly point that out.I also used "distilled" water since I live where the tap water is very hard and would clog it in short order I'm sure.Using distilled water is a no-brainer no matter where you live. Minerals will eventually clog it up, though you can de-calcify the unit, as laid out in the instructions as well.It's a simple device. You pour water in, it gets heated, and steam escapes from the holes in the steam-head. Between garments you just hang the steam head on the provided hangar which just slips over the top of the door.In my opinion, this is SO MUCH BETTER that ironing. I hate ironing. This is great.Simple device, easy to use, great results.Also, as stated in the instructions very clearly, the hose will be stiff before use. The steam/heat loosens it up. Simple physics.I've only used it this once, but so far I'm very pleased. Using distilled water should prolong it's life.I would recommend it.Mark

Spits more water than steam. I have tried cleaning the machine with no improvement. Also the hose is very stiff which makes it hard to maneuver. Poor design, cheap materials.

Great value, great price

I received this steamer as a wedding gift a year and a half ago - after daily use it's given out on my husband and I, but for under 30 bucks I'm back to get a new one! Ever since getting this steamer, we have not used our iron once.Pros:-Easy-to-use-Gets the wrinkles out in half the time as ironing-I hate ironing so this takes the cake for meCons:-You have to keep the hose elevated or else it will spit out water. This was a problem for me since I wanted to steam bedsheets, mattresses, furniture, and the likeI've never used a professional steamer, but this fit my husband and I perfectly for taking the wrinkles out of our daily business clothes.

I compared this and the Jiffy handheld steamer side by side...

(I published this same review for the Jiffy)My father bought the Rowenta locally and I tried it out. I'd been wanting an easy-to-use steamer so I checked Amazon. The Jiffy has gotten excellent reviews whereas the Rowenta has gotten ok reviews (most negatives are about durability.) I ordered the Jiffy and borrowed my Dad's so I could compare them.First let me say that I want a quick and easy steamer mostly to get wrinkles out of Tshirts, shorts, jeans,button-downs etc that I didn't take out of the dryer quick enough. I usually will not be steaming full suits,etc.The Rowenta is incredibly quick to heat up and start steaming. It literally takes about 30 seconds.The Jiffy takes about 3 minutes. That's still fast but if you're in a really big rush...When the Rowenta is heated up it basically just sits idle. I don't think it's losing any water while idle because there's no steam coming out. When the Jiffy is heated up the water is literally boiling inside. You can see and hear it boiling. It constantly releases steam. The bad part about this is if you need to pause for a bit (answer phone, do something else...) then the water continues to get used up. In my case it was pumping out hot steam heating up the bathroom and fogging up the mirror. This brings me to one of the bigger complaints about the Rowenta-the water capacity. The Rowenta definitely holds less water than the Jiffy but I found the Rowenta to be more real-world convenient. 1) because it only releases steam only when you need it (you push the button) and 2) because the Rowenta heats up so fast the capacity isn't much of an issue.Also, the Jiffy gets hot on the exterior-real hot. So it's not that easy to refill quickly because you have to be careful not to burn yourself. After you're finished using the Jiffy it's too hot to put away. You have to leave it and let it cool down. When you're steaming with the Jiffy it's also easy to burn your fingers with the steam. If you don't keep it perfectly upright it leaks easily and the drops really burn you. If you get yourself with the steam you say, "OW!". If you get yourself with the drops you say, "OW S%&*!!, son of a...!!"The Rowenta doesn't get very hot on the exterior. If you steam your fingers it doesn't really hurt. I also made a dumb mistake when first trying the Rowenta. I left it plugged in lying on top of some clothing for a couple hours. Of course I don't recommend this but nonetheless it wasn't that hot and the clothes it was lying on were in no apparent danger of burning. I believe you're supposed to try and keep them both upright while steaming but sometimes you want to turn it to reach a spot. I don't recall the Rowenta leaking when I did that. If it did, it wasn't hot enough for me to remember.I'm sure many people consider the hotter steam of the Jiffy to be a plus over Rowenta but I didn't find this to be the case. Yes the Jiffy is hotter but it just 'boils' steam out of the openings. The Rowenta is less hot but it 'blasts' the steam out when you push the button. The blasting effect seemed to almost, but not entirely, make up for the difference in heat. Also, the extra heat of the Jiffy made the clothing soggy so if you touched a part that you'd already steamed it would create new wrinkles. Touching the parts that you already steamed with the Rowenta didn't really seem to create new wrinkles. I used both steamers on the same 3 pieces of clothing for about the same amount of time. I used the Rowenta on one side and the Jiffy on the other. I didn't tell my wife which was which and asked her which looked better. They were all basically too close to compare.I have a toddler so there was definitely a safety issue for me. If she were to pull the cord and pull the Jiffy down on herself while on( or even 5-10 mins after you've unplugged it)she could be seriously injured and scarred. If she were to pull the Rowenta down it probably wouldn't be a big issue.So I ordered a Rowenta for myself and am sending the Jiffy back. I'm not saying the Jiffy is a bad piece of equipment, it just isn't quick and easy like the Rowenta. I feel as if I needed something that performs like the Jiffy I'd rather just get an upright steamer.In summary, the Rowenta is safer, quicker, and easier-- for my purposes anyway. It's also cheaper. Only time will tell about the durability.

great product sent ahead of promised time by Amazon I had an older version for about 20 years, and haven't used an iron since i owned it. I loved it until it died. The new one is a similar design but sturdier w/more options. I LOVE IT.

I've had two of these steamers over the past 30 years. The heating units eventually failed because of mineral buildup from the water. This one is a bit lighter than my older one, but it works just as well. And definitely better than several other steamers with large company brand names.

just what we needed for travel

we took this on a recent cruise and it worked great for our needs..was pleased by the ample length of the cord, which made it easy to use without an extension cord on most occasions..had a little trouble getting the steam function to work evenly.. design fits in hand well and allows cord to wtap around conveniently..did not need it, but like the dual voltage settings...is a great product; small, easy to use, and works great!

Hot Stuff

What an amazing little iron. This iron has all the features of a full size Iron. I love it for my crafting projects, but also find it useful for small ironing jobs when I don't want to drag out my big iron. It's great to be able to get steam from such a small and lightweight iron. With a dual voltage selector, I look forward to using it for travel.

Used it in Europe; use it at home

I bought this cute little iron to take on a trip to Europe, since some of the clothing I brought would need a light press. I was going to be there for a month I had rented a furnished apartment, and I wasn't sure that they'd have all the cords and gadgets that I'd need, or that their iron would be suitable (clean and work well). I don't know if there are dry cleaners in Italy, and alough I've been there four times, I've never passed one. Anyway, this little iron heats up fast and it doesn't drip, which is amazing to me. I use it at home instead of a large iron to press small sewing jobs and clothes that need a fast press before work. I can use it on my bed without dragging out an ironing board, although as an avid crafts person I have two of them: large and small. I perceived that because it is inexpensive, that it would also be junk. I was prepared to order it, try it out, and return it. Wow, was I surprised! It's just the opposite. It's absolutely wonderful!! Give it a try. I think you'll be as pleased as I am.

As a fashion student with extensive experience in retail, I would consider myself an authority on steamers and irons. I was able to get this steamer from the store I used to work at when they relocated. It heats up very quickly and is super easy to use. The only downside is that when you're steaming the base tends to move around a bit on its wheels, but I wouldn't let that deter you from purchasing it. Jiffy steamers are the best, and every retailer I've worked for uses Jiffy. They're well made and last for years. Mine has been in constant use, for hours every day to steam the clothes in the store, for about five years. Now I certainly don't use it as much as it was used in the store, but it's still in great condition. This steamer is a great investment.

Got this steamer in the early '90s

I love this steamer! I've had it since the early 90s and it is still going strong. In the beginning it took a while to get used to the fact that it wasn't an iron. lol I would definitely buy another if this one stopped working. After all these years the handle is just starting to leak a few drops when steaming but it has been a wonderful product.

Couldn't Live without it

I have been using these steamers for the past 20 years. They are very durable and work extremely well. The only thing I would suggest when buying a steamer is to be sure you get one with a metal head. When it heats up it acts like an iron as well. With this steamer, you simply hang your clothes on a hanger, kick the steamer on and steam the wrinkles out within minutes. Far easier than using an iron every day. If you have to prepare your clothes for work, school, etc., every day, then do yourself a favor and get a steamer. You won't regret it.

Mmmm, Steamy!

Singer's SteamWorks Pro steamer is just amazing, so lets get down to it.Assembly was fairly straight forward and took about five minutes to unpack everything and get it all put together. So the instructions get an A+.To start off I filled the tank with filtered water (they recommend distilled water obviously) and slid in onto the base, flipped the machine on, waited about a minute and steam was shooting out so it was time to start steaming!Using it for the first time, let alone a garment steamer for the first time, was an experience. I started with some drapes that had recently been washed but not ironed. A few passes with the steamer took every last wrinkle out of them! It actually surprised me because infomercials have really ruined my expectations on steamers as they seem to over glorify them.Next up was a button up work shirt. Using the folding hanger and the garment clip bar to hold the shirt, a minute of going over the shirt made it look like it had been freshly pressed! Just amazing with so little effort.The SteamWorks Pro steamer works flawlessly on everything I've tried it and it uses VERY little water.Now there are a few things that I would consider minor flaws.* First of all there is a LOT of plastic and it's not the heavy duty feeling ABS plastic. The pole clasps that are on the telescopic pole (these are what you use to lock the pole at different heights) are made of plastic and I am honestly waiting for one of them to break and prevent me from collapsing or extending the pole.* I find the steamer hose a little bit too short and too stiff. When you are using it, the hose does become more pliable when heated up. Not a huge issue.* The drain plug doesn't completely drain the unit and requires you to tilt it. They really should have designed it better so you didn't have to do this.* Even when fully collapsed the unit is 32" tall. If you are like me, I have no room to store stuff like this and am resorting to having it just sitting in my room.* No storage for the accessories. Now I have to find a place to put these bits and pieces.* No handle, so I am unsure where I can grab to move/pick up the unit. It also doesn't roll on carpet or carpet with rugs very well.These are all really nitpicky flaws, none of which detract from how well the unit works/functions.For how well it works and the price, you really can't beat this garment steamer!Pros:Works and works very well.Uses very little water and doesn't saturate the garment.The accessories and nice, especially the handheld steaming board and space age oven mitt (seriously, it comes with a protective glossy silver oven mitt!).Easy to operate.Easy to put together.Somewhat compact and collapsable.Produces steam within a minute of turning it on.Cons:Fairly bulky, need to find a place to store it when not in use.Drain plug doesn't completely drain the unit.Tons of plastic! Only time will tell how well it will hold up to being used.Has no storage for it's accessories.

Great, but keep your iron!

If you are looking to replace your iron with this steamer, or any steamer, stop looking. A steamer will never get a dress shirt looking the way an iron will. But, this steamer works great on items that you cannot iron. For example, I have a jacket that is dry clean only and it was very wrinkled. This steamer worked great getting out the wrinkles. I also have a dress that is hand wash, hang to dry and it cannot be ironed. It looked like a wrinkled mess after washing. In no time at all the steamer removed the wrinkles and made the dress look great. It does heat up instantly! There is no wait time at all. It has a place to hang the garment while steaming, which is a big help.This steamer works great on those few items around my house, but it will not be replacing my iron any time soon!

Fast, Hot Steam

A solid product that produces a good deal of steam in a short time. Saves trips to the cleaners and works well, although I have not tried steaming any large articles like it claims to handle. May be a bit out of place in an apartment with limited storage area if the user intends to keep it available for frequent use. Easy to put together and holds a nice amount of water. And the tank is removable, making it simple to fill for use.The directions are easy to follow and accessories make it possible to use often and in a variety of ways. The pole is adjustable and it comes with a convenient hanger that allows for multi angle use. The system automatically shuts off when the tank is empty as a nice safety feature.A great accessory that can be used by anyone who may have trouble using an iron and board to keep clothes fresh and neat.Added later after initial review: Now that we have used this for awhile, two minor problems should be corrected. The wheels on the base need a lock of some kind to hold the unit stable when in use. Also, a longer power cord would help. Depending on where your wall outlet is located, the length of the cord may limit where the unit is used. Still 4 out of 5 stars.

as good as the full-size steamer

I compared this travel model with the full-size J-2000 steamer. They were both very good at removing wrinkles from business-type clothing. We steamed a full week's wardrobe, and the clothing done with the travel steamer looked just as good as the others. The only drawback to the travel model is related to its small size - it needs to be refilled every 3-6 garments, and the smaller steam head means that it takes longer to steam an item. However, I actually found that the small steam head worked better on small areas like collars and cuffs, especially since it has squared corners. The corners mean that you do have to be a bit careful with delicate knits, though. Worth the price if you really need to look your best when you travel.

My father bought the Rowenta locally and I tried it out. I'd been wanting an easy-to-use steamer so I checked Amazon. The Jiffy has gotten excellent reviews whereas the Rowenta has gotten ok reviews (most negatives are about durability.) I ordered the Jiffy and borrowed my Dad's so I could compare them.First let me say that I want a quick and easy steamer mostly to get wrinkles out of Tshirts, shorts, jeans,button-downs etc that I didn't take out of the dryer quick enough. I usually will not be steaming full suits,etc.The Rowenta is incredibly quick to heat up and start steaming. It literally takes about 30 seconds.The Jiffy takes about 3 minutes. That's still fast but if you're in a really big rush...When the Rowenta is heated up it basically just sits idle. I don't think it's losing any water while idle because there's no steam coming out. When the Jiffy is heated up the water is literally boiling inside. You can see and hear it boiling. It constantly releases steam. The bad part about this is if you need to pause for a bit (answer phone, do something else...) then the water continues to get used up. In my case it was pumping out hot steam heating up the bathroom and fogging up the mirror. This brings me to one of the bigger complaints about the Rowenta-the water capacity. The Rowenta definitely holds less water than the Jiffy but I found the Rowenta to be more real-world convenient. 1) because it only releases steam only when you need it (you push the button) and 2) because the Rowenta heats up so fast the capacity isn't much of an issue.Also, the Jiffy gets hot on the exterior-real hot. So it's not that easy to refill quickly because you have to be careful not to burn yourself. After you're finished using the Jiffy it's too hot to put away. You have to leave it and let it cool down. When you're steaming with the Jiffy it's also easy to burn your fingers with the steam. If you don't keep it perfectly upright it leaks easily and the drops really burn you. If you get yourself with the steam you say, "OW!". If you get yourself with the drops you say, "OW S%&*!!, son of a...!!"The Rowenta doesn't get very hot on the exterior. If you steam your fingers it doesn't really hurt. I also made a dumb mistake when first trying the Rowenta. I left it plugged in lying on top of some clothing for a couple hours. Of course I don't recommend this but nonetheless it wasn't that hot and the clothes it was lying on were in no apparent danger of burning. I believe you're supposed to try and keep them both upright while steaming but sometimes you want to turn it to reach a spot. I don't recall the Rowenta leaking when I did that. If it did, it wasn't hot enough for me to remember.I'm sure many people consider the hotter steam of the Jiffy to be a plus over Rowenta but I didn't find this to be the case. Yes the Jiffy is hotter but it just 'boils' steam out of the openings. The Rowenta is less hot but it 'blasts' the steam out when you push the button. The blasting effect seemed to almost, but not entirely, make up for the difference in heat. Also, the extra heat of the Jiffy made the clothing soggy so if you touched a part that you'd already steamed it would create new wrinkles. Touching the parts that you already steamed with the Rowenta didn't really seem to create new wrinkles. I used both steamers on the same 3 pieces of clothing for about the same amount of time. I used the Rowenta on one side and the Jiffy on the other. I didn't tell my wife which was which and asked her which looked better. They were all basically too close to compare.I have a toddler so there was definitely a safety issue for me. If she were to pull the cord and pull the Jiffy down on herself while on( or even 5-10 mins after you've unplugged it)she could be seriously injured and scarred. If she were to pull the Rowenta down it probably wouldn't be a big issue.So I ordered a Rowenta for myself and am sending the Jiffy back. I'm not saying the Jiffy is a bad piece of equipment, it just isn't quick and easy like the Rowenta. I feel as if I needed something that performs like the Jiffy I'd rather just get an upright steamer.In summary, the Rowenta is safer, quicker, and easier-- for my purposes anyway. It's also cheaper. Only time will tell about the durability.

Works well on light fabrics

This steamer works great on light fabrics such as silk. However when I tried steaming my cotton dress shirts, it took forever just to get a couple of wrinkles out. For its small size and price I'm fairly satisfied with this steamer, but don't expect it to replace your iron.
