DeLonghi- But For That Ill-PlacedCord
By Spudman
I chose this DeLonghi iron with its patented dual soleplate (ceramic and titanium) for Mrs. Spudman even though she already has irons of various sizes to use for household ironing and her quilting projects. We were curious to see how an 1800 watt iron "designed for professional results" would compare to her T-Fal and Black and Decker irons. We both took the DeLonghi for an initial test drive, and subsequently Mrs. Spudman has taken it for a few more spins around the block. Our impressions:The DeLonghi is easily the heaviest of all the Spud family's irons, yet surprisingly it doesn't tire or strain the forearm like I imagined it would. Perhaps this is because of how effortlessly it glides across the fabric. With 1800 watts the Delonghi has power to spare, but using another high wattage appliance, like a space heater, could trip a circuit breaker as it did in our home. Just be careful.Mrs. Spudman loves the large water fill cup that comes with the iron, the easy fill design, and the ability to use plain tap water in the semi-transparent water tank; it's easy to see how much water is left in the tank at a glance.Performance of the DeLonghi is terrific. It produces plenty of steam to knock out the most stubborn wrinkles with ease. I pulled a pair of cotton khaki pants out of my closet with what I thought were permanently embedded wrinkles. With only a few passes the wrinkles were gone. Mrs. Spudman tried the iron on clothing of various sizes and materials and large pieces of fabric. No wrinkle could resist the persistence and power of the DeLonghi's steam. The controls or the iron are well placed, intuitive, and easily accessed. Unlike the handle on one of her other irons, this iron's handle allows plenty of hand room underneath and more than adequate access to the setting control dial. The only fault that the picky Mrs. Spudman could find is the placement of the cord. The cord does swivel back and forth to make ironing comfortable, but invariably it would drift back to the middle position when she set the iron down on the ironing board. In that position the iron doesn't set perfectly flat and is slightly unstable. Mrs. Spudman found herself adjusting the cord to one side every time she set down the iron. In my limited experience with the iron, I wasn't as bothered by the wayward cord. Not that it matters, but I like the color scheme of the iron and the "racing stripes" on its handle. Conclusion - Despite the problematic cord placement that may work itself out in time, this is an excellent iron that performs very well. Considering its price, weight, and size, it would be a bit of overkill for one who would use it for occasional light ironing. For one with a large family or a seamstress or quilter who demands the performance of an exceptional iron, this would be one to consider.

Awkward cord placement = possible tipping/safety issue
By 35-year Technology Consumer
There's no way to review this iron without talking about the power cord placement first. The cord for this iron enters the iron body directly under the handle. At best it's awkward, and at worst, potentially unsafe. While the cord housing allows you to pivot the cord to the side of the handle (allowing the handle to contact its resting surface), you have to make a concerted effort to do so. If you forget: your high-end iron could potentially pitch over. All I can say about this design is: "what were they thinking?"If you are willing to put up with this:the iron is heavy, yet glides easily, so reduces the amount of force you have to exert while ironing. It heats quickly and produces plenty of steam. It also includes a separate water container that is the same volume as the water reservoir in the iron.It irons just fine; you'll have to decide if you want to roll the dice on the cord placement. This is an unfortunate shortcoming in such an expensive iron.

I hate ironing.
By Glen
I bought this iron for the very reason that there were no consumer reviews I could find rating it one way or the other. Consumer Reports listed it as a good choice. Also I was interested in the ceramic and titanium sole plate. After using it for about a month, it does the job as described. I wish I could say it made me like ironing, but I still hate the job.I wish the cord was a bit longer, though; but that is my personal preference and where in my home I iron. One thing I do like is that the steam surge button really does release a lot of steam and is quite startling upon first hearing.
