NOT worth it!!!

I was so excited at the prospect of no longer having to iron - so thought I'd invest in a quality steamer...unfortunately this one SUCKS! MAYBE 5 mins of steam- because you need to stop and refill the water tank every few minutes - way less than the 20 they stated....and still tons of wrinkles...and takes too long -twisting and turning to get the wrinkles out - easier to do the old fashion iron and board....bahhhh humbug! what a disappointment:=(

Steamer causes your mood to steam more

This item is mis-advertised. Quite often, it spits out water instead of steam. The advertisement says it will steam for twenty minutes before refilling the container. Five minutes of steam time is all you get. It takes longer to attach garment, adjust hooks and clips than it would to steam iron by hand the conventional way. I would not recommend this item.Ted

CAN THEY DO BETTER?

I can't say I differ much from the other review. I just got mine and I too thought I was loving the feeling of NOT ironing. I had had other hand held cheaper steams so I knew it wouldn't equal an iron but I didn't expect to stand in a lake of water and have steam for only 3 minutes. I thought mine was just defective but now that I read the other person's only steamed for a few minutes perhaps this IS the design. ewwwWhat was more shocking is after adding water time after time after time when I started to disassembled it to return it IT WAS FULL OF MORE THAN ONE CUP OF WATER!And that means it does not know when it needs water and it leaks. Two issues.If not for them I tell you the accessories are the thing. The mitt truly protects your hand from high heat. Heck I'd use it with a regular iron. The lint attachment works well. The hose was surprise. IT IS LIKE VELVET. Truly nice to hold. Steam head is nice and large.But that's all I got to enjoy because by time I covered shoulder to waist on a long coat (front only) I realized I had a floor full of water and I was done!I'll let you know if an exchange is any better. I'm beginning to think it won't help either.Can anyone tell me of one that is a lot better than this?

Awesome product!

I decided to buy a steamer after using a Jiffy Steamer at my mom's house. I was a bit hesitant about how well it would compare since the steam fast product is signicantly less expensive than the comparable Jiffy Steamer product. The Good Housekeeping endorsement of this product sealed the deal. I have been thrilled by how well it works. My clothes look great after steaming them! It is great for replacing ironing clothes, and you can use it to remove wrinkles on things that I would *never* try ironing - like wool sweaters, suit jackets, draperies/sheers, knit tops. The other big advantage for me personally is that all I have to do is to plug it in to use it - no more dragging out the ironing board. The mfr does recommend the use of distilled or deionized water to prolong the life/minimize descaling maintenance. A gallon of water will probably fill the tank twice - which translates into about 8 hours of use. Do shop around. Cost varies significantly from place to place. UPDATE: Dec 9 2006. Still have my steamer, still love it! No problems with it whatsoever.

Ironing is a bore but steaming is much more fun

I received this as a christmas gift. After 30 days of use I really love my steamer. I can blast through an entire weeks worth of laundry in just a few hours while I watch television.The lint brush that clips right onto the front is great for all of those sueded micro fiber materials they have out now. I also really like the freedom of movement I have not being stuck behind an ironing board and having to walk around it all of the time to change garments.The steam heats up quickly and is so portable that I can turn it on and start steaming within 5 minutes of my toddler going down for a nap. When she wakes up I can turn it off and roll it right out of the way in about 1 minute flat. Even if I only get 30 minutes to do steam it's still easy on and easy off.Warning though, the steam is extremely hot and powerful. I did get a minor burn on my fingers from not being careful. I recommend using "props" like plastic hangers up a shirt sleeve to hold it at the righ angle. And laying a garment on a table/bed to steam a crease. Otherwise, I'm quite happy with my new toy. Ironing is a boring chore but steaming is fun.

Very Happy

I was a little lerry about purchasing this maching because I wasn't sure if I would use it to justify the spend but as I looked around, Amazon had the best price and I saw the Good Housekeeping logo, which means Good Housekeeping doubles the warranty of the manufacturer. I was very satisified as the maching put out a lot of steam and I was suprised how fast it heats up. I looked at other machines...and the only one that came close to the the SteamFast was Jiffy. the Jiffy unit has a smaller tank, lower wattage and it is more expensive. I feel confident that I made the right choice and I use it every day!!!

Better than Rowenta! Hands down!

I have owned Kenmore Irons, and a top line Rowenta that was recently dropped - replaced by this B&D model. It holds more water than others, there is no gimicky controls - very basic - press the button for the right textile setting and go. The sole plate is smooth - steam is powerful. I iron all my jeans - most come out of the dryer with hard creases - this iron presses them all out. Delicate items - poly and blends - no melting! My old Rowenta melted everthing it touched - and then the $15 cleaning kit was a hassel with Rowenta - not to mention all the spitting from the steam holes. Black and Decker has made a fantastic iron that well worth the money! Don't hesitate - just buy it.

Really good iron but...

This iron does a really good job of ironing but it has a major design flaw. The cover over the water well breaks really easily. I had read reviews before I bought it where people stated they had the same issue. Like a dummy I figured they were just rough with it and was sure it wouldn't happen to mine. I was wrong. The third time I used it, although I was very careful, the piece that holds the cover shut broke off. I have to fill it and tape the cover down with masking tape. It's a real pain. And water still leaks out of the water well all over my clothes. You would think a company like Black & Decker could come up with something better than this. I'd be willing to pay more to have a better cover. 5 stars for ironing power and ease. 2 for design.

Outstanding Value

This will be a short and sweet review. As a guy I hate ironing, but find it necessary to keep the work shirts and pants looking good. This iron heats up very quickly, glides easily and has an incredible shot of steam that would please Tim Allen, "Argh, argh, argh". My sisters $120+ Rowenta has nothing on this baby.

Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R1JZ9G8OJ0575R I had a Black & Decker D2030 Auto-Off Digital Advantage Iron for the past two years, and since I was not completely satisfied with it (this was really just a convenient iron, not what you need when you have 10 shirts to iron at one time every week) I felt like it was time for an upgrade.I heard from a lot of people that Rowenta irons are the Mercedes of irons (after all, they're made in Germany!) so I looked into their offers, and come across the Pro Precision, which I had no clue existed: an iron with a separate yet compact base where you can put a ton of water and get humongous volumes of continuous steam!I have never seen so much steam coming out of any iron, not even from garment steamers, this is a brilliant idea, you literally need just one pass and the garment is completely flat, no wrinkles left, not even the toughest ones! The steam goes so deep into the fabric that I can do two legs of a jeans folded on each other at the same time. Ironing my clothes is the easiest thing now!Other than the steam which is the main benefit of this product - and "benefit" is too soft of a word to describe it, this amount of steam should be called a REVOLUTION :) - the iron has two other great features which are apparently unique to Rowenta irons:1/ a "precision tip" which I had never seen on any other brand and allows to go into every corner of a piece of clothes, like under the buttons of a shirt2/ an ironing plate with hundreds of holes all over the surface, which all release steam - all the other brands I have seen on the market only have a few holes, and only on the sides or at the front of the plate, and they don't even all release steam (makes one wonder what they're for, really).Other cool features are the fact that you can refill the water base while ironing (makes sense, since the iron and the base are separate) and it has a valve on the side that recollects all the impurities from the water that can build up inside the base over time.I really recommend the Pro Precision for anyone who wants the best in irons and in steamers, it's like having a dry cleaning service at home! Look at my video, it really says it all.

Steam button breaks

I like this iron in general. I like it especially for the steam generator ability. However, this is my third iron that has broken and rowenta does not back them up. On all three irons the button that you push for steam has popped and quits working. I would not recommend this iron to anyone.

PLEASE READ BEFORE BUYING! No on/off switch!

I have owned Rowenta Steam Irons and Generators for almost 20 years, they are typically one of my favorite items, and I have been very satisfied with them until now. This model works great, BUT.........there is NO ON/OFF switch. You have to plug it in to turn it on, and unplug it to turn it off. There is nothing in the instructions or in any of the materials that mentions this, come on Rowenta you can and should do better!

Much harder to use than expected - and the ironing surface is smaller than expected. Ironing pants is okay on it - but shirts are difficult and it's almost easier just to iron them standard style. Not the best purchase I've ever made.

Fast, but hot.

This item cuts ironing time in half.(maybe less). I never used to iron. I just wore my cotton shirts "as is". This unit changed all that. I now where crisp, pressed shirts wherever I go. I feel better about the way I look. Be careful while readjusting your clothes during pressing, the upper surface is hot!

I purchased this press to replace an Elna press I had for many years. I like the steam feature--was a little concerned that the holes in the heating sole might leave marks on the jeans I'm pressing, but that hasn't happened. I wish it opened a little wider. I have to be careful not to burn myself.
